The Black and ethnic minority book club

Our Black and Ethnic Minority Book Club was established in October 2023 with the generous funding we received from the National Lottery Awards for All. This initiative has successfully enabled us to create a safe and inclusive space for individuals from Black and Ethnic Minority backgrounds to explore literature and engage in meaningful discussions. Through monthly meetings, we have fostered a sense of belonging for all our members and guests. We have curated a reading list featuring books written by authors from various ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, and cultural backgrounds. This approach breaks down barriers, challenges stereotypes, and promotes empathy and a deeper understanding of diverse cultures. The book club provides an opportunity for seniors to combat social isolation and improve their mental health through communication and engagement with others. The Black and Ethnic Minority Book Club has become a cherished monthly event that our members eagerly anticipate. While many book clubs exist, our project stands out by specifically focusing on Black and Ethnic Minority literature. This targeted approach not only fosters cultural representation but also creates an inclusive space for dialogue and celebration of diverse genres. Our book club brings a fresh perspective to promoting community engagement through literature.
